On this week’s episode I had a great conversation with Jillian Benfield. Jillian is the author of The Gift of The Unexpected. Her son Anderson was born with Down Syndrome and she’s here to talk about her journey. While our paths may be different, there is so much we can learn from each other. Jillian shares her inspiring story of love and hope.
About Jillian Benfield:
Jillian Benfield recently settled on Florida’s Space Coast after her husband, Andy, served 8 years in the military. They lived in 5 different states due to his specialty training. The family faced numerous challenges, including their second child’s NICU stay, open heart surgery, a miscarriage, and a rare diagnosis for their third child. The most significant moment came when they learned their second child, Anderson, would have Down syndrome. Their initial heartbreak transformed into understanding as they confronted their ignorance and ableism. Navigating the world with a disabled child has been both challenging and beautiful for them. They wouldn’t change their journey; the unexpected shaped their lives.
